We have a new class of Circles starting! The Leaders (low-income heads of households) have already started their 12-week training, but we still need Allies: people who want to work closely with one family and accompany them on their journey out of poverty. As an Ally, you will be part of not only the relationship as described but part of the bigger Circles community. For instance, all the Circle Leaders, Allies and other volunteers sit down together for a meal on Tuesday nights, followed by Circles programming.
So how does it work and what’s the commitment?
Two-to-three Circle Allies are paired with a Circle Leader for 18 months, during which time an Ally will likely commit to 4-10 hours a month. This means that while Circles meets every Tuesday, an Ally need only attend a Circles meeting twice a month. The fact that every Leader has two-to-three Allies also means that there is a lot of flexibility and shared resources.
Sound intriguing?
Then check out our Become an Ally page that includes a video wherein a current Ally tells you about her experience. You can also join us at one of the upcoming orientation meetings to learn more:
- Meet & Greet: Thursday, August 2nd from 7:00-8:00 PM. Learn about the many ways you can volunteer with Circles and hear first hand the impact our program has on our families & Allies.
- Poverty Simulation: Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 AM to noon. Attend an experiential workshop that sensitizes participants to the realities of living in poverty. This is a crucial training for those interested in becoming an Ally. You must RSVP to register for the Simulation by calling 734-340-9042.
See you there!
